The job
Flatbed rewards drivers who do not mind working. You secure the load yourself, you tarp when it needs tarping, and you get paid extra for both on top of the highest company-driver CPM in trucking.
Our flatbed and step deck carriers move steel, lumber, roofing, pipe, machinery and construction material, mostly in the Southeast, Midwest and Texas triangle. Securement training is provided if you are coming from van or reefer — several of our carriers have a paid 3 to 5 day flatbed school for experienced CDL-A drivers.
On the job
- Secure loads with chains, straps and binders
- Tarp freight when required (tarp pay per load)
- Work with shippers on loading and weight distribution
- Verify legal height, width and weight, permits when oversize
- Daily securement checks within the first 50 miles

To qualify
- Valid Class A CDL, any US state
- 21 years or older (interstate)
- 6+ months verifiable OTR — less is workable, ask us
- Current DOT medical card
- No more than 3 moving violations in 3 years
- No DUI in the last 5 years (case by case)
- Clean FMCSA Clearinghouse query
- Legal to work in the US

I have never run flatbed. Can I still get hired?
Yes, if you have a year of verifiable CDL-A. Several of our carriers run a paid flatbed and securement course for van and reefer drivers crossing over. You get paid while you learn to tarp.
How much extra is tarp pay?
Usually $50 to $125 per tarped load depending on the carrier and the freight. Over a month that is often an extra $400 to $900 on top of mileage.
